Montreal Gazette

Dear Editor:

Re: A war crime is a war crime, Montreal Gazette, July 02, 2002

Is it too much to ask that all Canadian citizens be treated equally before the law? If not all Canadians, then all Canadians who have immigrated here by choice? According to Mr. Luciuk, Canada's "Animal Farm" ex-SMERSH or ex-KGB Canadians are certainly more equal than other immigrant Canadians are. What is more troubling is that knowing that the immigration records had been destroyed, Federal officials, while insisting that 50 years ago Mr. Odynsky must have been asked what he did in the war, were admitting the likes of Natasha, Joseph and Nahum. Where was that diligence only a few years ago? Apparently to this Federal government, what 'probably' happened to Mr. Odynsky is more damning than what actually happened with self-confessed criminals.
